Seattle Sports: In the Morning

I've got a sort-of sports/humor piece in the P-I this morning.

Crushing loss as M's mount comeback, Putz blows save. M's lose 7-6.
Angels win, Indians win, Yankees win. M's 54-45, 2nd place, 3.5 GB (4 GB of CLE in W.C., NYY 1/2 GB of M's).

J.J. Putz convinced everyone on the team (and I mean everyone, even manager John McLaren) to get buzz cuts before the game. Jeff Weaver and bullpen coach Jim Slaton were evidently the only guys on the team not to participate...blame the loss on them.

A little bit of peer pressure came along with the head-shaving endeavor. Would Felix Hernandez participate? Reports the Times: "Oh, he will," relief pitcher George Sherrill said, watching Hernandez from across the room. "It's either a haircut or two black eyes and a haircut."

Rookies and quarterbacks report to Seahawks camp today.

At least one Blazer fan is psyched about getting Steve Blake.

This page is one of my first stops every morning here in Pullman, thanks for the nice work.

Excellent piece in the PI this morning.

Seth, way to go with calling the Rick Rissz child interviews what they are: grating, tedious, repetitive, and just plain stupid. I complained to the Mariners about it a year ago, and made sure they know I'm raising an 8 and a 16 year old, volunteer with kids, and just love the little rascals. But not those awful interviews. Coincidentally, I had just written again to the Mariners to ask them to tell Rick that what he chatters about, a lot, is baseball information most fans already know (yes, we all know that the Mariners and Blue Jays were expansion teams in the same year, that Joe Carter won the 93 Series, and that the Cubs havent' won in nearly 100 years). Please, Rick, tell me something I can't see or hear about, based on your being right in the ball park and next to the players and the game.
