Another Bavasi in the Sports World

Bill Bavasi's daughter Katie Bavasi begins her intercollegiate soccer career this fall at UC-San Diego.

UCSD is pretty good in the women's soccer world, they've been to the NCAA tourney six out of the past eight years.

La fille du Bavasi was heavily recruited out of Mission Viejo High (it's in Orange County, across the 5 from Laguna Beach). She's a 6-0 midfielder who scored 7 goals her senior year and was named all-league first team, no small feat in the soccer hub that is Orange County.

Says her new coach, UCSD's Ada Greenwood:

Katie brings a great presences in the midfield with her height and playing ability. She will also add a strong force on defending and attacking set pieces.

Dad Bill and Mom Tracy both were also athletes at UCSD--Bill played basketball and Tracy was a swimmer.

According to e7sports, Katie also ran track, and was in honors biology.

She was born May 23, 1989--that day the M's lost 6-5 at Boston on a walk-off single by Dwight Evans. It was Ken Griffey, Jr., playing in his 38th career game, went 0-4.
