Richie Sexson talks about the Mariners' last homestand: "I think everyone wanted to get out of there (Seattle)...It got real boo-friendly there for awhile. It seemed like everything we did was booed."
No, Richie, everything you did was booed, because you were hitting .196, and playing like you didn't care.
On that last game of the homestand, Sexson went 0-4 with three strikeouts, and as I mentioned on this blog, it didn't look like he was trying very hard. Apparently he wasn't--he was too busy pouting.
Richie Sexson is paid $80,247 per game. You've got to expect criticism when you are making that much and doing your job worse than practically anyone in the league.
The only other guy I remember getting booed in that game was Horacio Ramirez, who allowed 10 hits in 4 innings. So he deserved it, too.
Says Sexson, "Hopefully... when we get home, it will be a little more positive atmosphere."
It almost sounds like Sexson is threatening the fans: If you boo me, I won't play hard.
