Column in the P-I Today on the Big 10 and the Spread Option

Since Michigan's been having so much trouble with the spread option, and Florida beat Ohio State with it, I tried to figure out why those two might be susceptible to it. I end up comparing Michigan and Ohio State to the Cold War era superpowers.

See what you think.

Over at the Times, Bob Condotta wrote what's actually the perfect companion piece, explaining what the spread option is, why it's effective, and how the Huskies have been using it this season.

all i know is if the spread option can make navy into a 7 to 10 win a year team, it must have pretty much superhuman power.
