Ichiro had terse words for an reporter when asked after last night's loss whether he thinks the Mariners are "pressing."
I don't even comprehend that word. No one is trying to win two games in one game. If someone did 100 sprints before games, then maybe he'd be pressing, but there's no such idiots on this team.Ich is a smart dude, and he gets exasperated with the mind-punchingly stupid questions that some reporters ask.
To wit, in the press conference announcing his new contract, his response to a long-winded question by since-fired KIRO radio guy New York Vinnie, a question that boiled down to, "Will the fact that you've signed here make it more likely that high-profile free agents will sign in Seattle?"
"I don't know." said Ichiro. "Please ask a fortune teller."
With the M's having lost 14 of 16, his patience may be worn a little more thin than usual. Still, it's nice to see an athlete respond honestly to such a dumb question instead of taking the easy way out and of rewarding it with an empty quote.

It's gems like these that make me wish Ichiro did more English-language stuff. I can't decide if it's muted or oddly enhanced when filtered through a translator.
