Paul Westhead is New Sonics Assistant

Paul Westhead will indeed leave his job as coach of the WNBA champ Phoenix Mercury and become an assistant for the Sonics.

Is this the first time the coach of a WNBA champ has quit right after winning the championship? Honestly, I couldn't even begin to care.

Westhead coached the Lakers from 1979-82, the Bulls in 82-83, and the Nuggets from 1990-92.

He's a Philly guy and a proponent of a run and gun style, and is best known for implementing that style with the Hank Gathers Loyola Marymount teams.
