It's like one of those nightmares where you arrive at a new job completely unprepared.
Your first assignment as a detective? Solve the D.B. Cooper hijacking.
Your first assignment as an agent? Revive Dan Cortese's career.
Your first assignment as an NFL defensive end? Line up against Walter Jones.
The last of these scenarios belongs to Gaines Adams, a consensus All-American defensive end at Clemson last year. He was the #4 pick in the draft by Tampa Bay, and will start at right defensive end on Sunday in the Bucs' opener against the Seahawks.
Opposite a man who pushes Escalades uphill for exercise.
Walter Jones, the best offensive lineman in the NFL and possibly in history, a 6-5, 325 pound man who ran a 4.8 40 coming out of college, is Gaines Adams' first day nightmare.
Adams is 6-5, too, but he'll be giving up 60 pounds on Jones, and 153 games of NFL experience.
