Every NFC West team besides the Seahawks is using a backup.
Marc Bulger, who started last week against Dallas despite having two broken ribs, has now been told by coach Scott Linehan that he is going to sit for a week or two.
The 49ers' Alex Smith is out at least a week or two after getting smooshed by Rocky Bernard. He may even miss the whole season, ESPN reported yesterday.
And the Cardinals' opening day starter, Matt Leinart, is now in a job-share with Kurt Warner.
Only the Seahawks are staying with the same guy that started the season (knock on wood). And that's a good sign.
