Bill Doba and his Wazzu staff are off to a slow start on the recruiting front--they haven't garnered a single 2008 recruiting commitment. But, according to Doba, it's not his fault, it's the Internet's.
Because of the Internet and all the negative stuff, we have some kids we have offered and I think they want to commit but they want to wait and see if the Internet is going to fire me.Doba's kidding about the Internet firing him (I think), but having no commits only a few months before National Signing Day in February is no joke.
No other Pac-10 team has no commits, in fact no other team has fewer than five. The Huskies have fourteen, according to Scout.com.Wazzu may be lagging because of Doba's own distaste for recruiting during the football season. He tells Craig Smith of the Times: "I wish there was some way that we could say you can't offer a kid until at least October of his senior year and let the kid be a high-school player and not worry about all the recruiting and all that other kind of stuff."
Perhaps, but that ain't the lay of the land, and every other Pac-10 school is recruiting furiously. Here, according to Scout.com, is the full list of Pac-10 schools and the number of commits they have:
Arizona: 9
ASU: 12
Cal: 10
Oregon: 10
OSU: 5
Stanford: 9
UCLA: 23
USC: 14
Washington: 14
Wazzu: 0
