Notre Dame Ought to Send Jordan Reffett a Thank You Card

Notre Dame won their first game yesterday, beating UCLA 20-6, and they won only because UCLA had to go with a guy at quarterback--the improbably-named McLeod Bethel-Thompson--who'd never thrown a pass before.

And the reason UCLA had to go with Bethel-Thompson is that the Dawgs' Jordan Reffert knocked Bruins backup QB Pat Cowan out with a knee injury two Saturdays ago.

UCLA fans are probably going to blame Karl Dorrell for this (especially this insane booster site), but I don't see how you can blame Dorrell for two players getting hurt. He even ran plays that should've been touchdowns. UCLA's running back dropped a touchdown pass in the endzone, and they had another play called back on a dumb holding penalty by a wide receiver.

At least the fighting Irish have a historically solid program... Stanford beating USC: THAT is shocking. Tavita Pritchard (Cardinal QB) is from Tacoma! I have never heard of him... did you ever see him play a high school game?

Of course, out here in Upstate NY they had to show the Ohio State-Purdue game, despite the facts that: A) nobody east of Pittsburgh cares about Ohio State or Purdue; and B) this area is 85% (or so) Catholic with its fair share of ND fans. Dagnabit.
