Seattle U: Division I Watch

Not much news in this ESPN.com piece by Andy Glockner about Seattle U's efforts to go D1 in basketball, but I found this quote by SU head coach and Seattle lifer Joe Callero kind of charming:

"Twenty years ago, after getting my first coaching job, I was in downtown Seattle in a bar with one of my best buddies in college," Callero said. "… He says, 'What's your dream college job?' I was at Seattle U. working on my master's. I said, 'The best job in America would be for me to coach Seattle U. back to Division I, win the national championship, come back down here to Pioneer Square and party.'"
If you are as pumped about SU going D1 again as I am, it's worth reading the whole piece, in which SU shares the spotlight with Houston Baptist U, another former D1 school trying to get back in.

This would be wonderful for Seattle and good for college basketball. It seems like every big city has scrappy D1 basketball teams who take the tournament by storm. As a huge Husky fan, I welcome the thought of an inner-city rivalry. Bring on the Redhawks!!!
