Tre Simmons in the Promised Land

Saw Isaiah Stanback at the Husky game on Saturday and got to thinking about his former Garfield High basketball teammate, Tre Simmons.

Turns out Simmons playing in Israel this year--in fact, he played his first game of the year last night.

Simmons is starting at guard for Hapoel Holon. He had 17 points in a 111-89 win over Galil Eylon yesterday. (Player of note for Galil Eylon--Doron Sheffer, who was Ray Allen's backcourt mate at UConn).

Simmons was 2-6 from three, and also grabbed 7 boards. Here's his player page. Apparently he's going by his given name, Chester.

Israeli basketball fans are not messing around--check out the crowd at this Hapoel Holon game, they've all got sparklers.

Holon is the city, it's just south of Tel Aviv. About 180,000 people. It's the sister city of Dayton, Ohio and, according to Wikipedia, hosts about half of the world's population of Samaritans.
