Locker's injury is diagnosed as a stinger and a muscle strain. Willingham: "We will not rush Jake's return to the field."
Also in that report:
--Al Afalava, who doled out the helmet-to-helmet hit, talked to and hugged Locker after the game.
--Locker flew home ahead of the team in a private jet with a team doctor.
The New York Times finds that rules on suspensions for helmet-to-helmet hits are murky, left up to the individual conferences. That's dumb, and we hope it won't take someone getting paralyzed to fix it.
The UW press release: "He is expected to have a full recovery."
Hawaii's Colt Brennan suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of Hawaii's win. He was motionless on the turf but eventually walked off the field.
OSU coach Mike Riley on the hit: "They didn't call a penalty, I know that," said Riley. "When you look at that play - and I'm really, glad Jake is OK - he lowered his head and shoulder into the sidelines. I'm trying to figure out how Al was going to tackle the guy if didn't go down to meet him. Is he supposed to take him in the chest, or what? It wasn't called, nobody on their sideline reacted until after Jake was down. ... I didn't see anything wrong with the hit."
The Times' Bud Withers says the refs lost control of the game.
