The top two spots in the college football poll have shuffled around faster than the deck chairs on the Hindenberg this year. Ten teams have been ranked in one of the top two spots.
Is this a case of terrible evaluation by those who do the rankings? Or is it yet more evidence of parity in college football?
I think it's a lot of the latter.
In the past two years (and we aren't done polling for '07 just yet) fifteen different college football programs have been ranked either #1 or #2. A little perspective--that's the same number of teams ranked either #1 or #2 for all of the seventies. To wit:

Great charts! It's certainly not out of the question that Georgia could sneak into the top 2 before it's all over. Let's beat the 1970's!
