Adrian Oliver, the Elijah-Wood-est looking member of the UW basketball team, is transferring because he "wants to be closer to home."
The reasons that college basketball players give for transferring are exactly as believable as the ones football coaches give for resigning ("I want to be closer to my family.")
Oliver, who Lorenzo Romar once said "could be the best all-around guard that we've recruited here," has been hurt this season. More importantly, he has been made superfluous with the arrival of Venoy Overton.
Once Ryan Appleby came back from his thumb injury, Oliver would have had a tough time getting into the rotation, and I'm sure Romar let him know.
Oliver is the second third player from the Dawgs' 2006 recruiting class to transfer, Phil Nelson went to Portland State, and Spencer Hawes to little-known Sacramento.
This also frees up a scholarship for Romar to use. There wouldn't seem to be any obvious targets this year, but next, maybe?

Romar's recruiting classes continue to disappoint. Really, name a guy not named Brockman that came into this program in the last three years -- on the heels of the No. 1 seed -- who has lived up to the hype?
I don't know if it's coaching or if guys just aren't as talented as the UW thinks when they are recruiting, but something is amiss.
It's Lorenzo over-estimating his ability to turn one man scoring shows into a cohesive team of Brockmans, Roys and Simmons...ses.
Or we can blame it on Cameron Dollar.
