I called this in October in a P-I column called Hawks' D comes before O.
When [Tim] Ruskell took over in 2005, the Hawks hadn't had a defensive player go to the Pro Bowl since 2001.Ha! I get to be right! Damn, should've placed a bet on it.
Lofa Tatupu -- Ruskell's second draft pick -- broke that streak in '05 when he went to the Pro Bowl. But Tatupu shared the Aloha Stadium locker room with six members of the Seahawks offense.
In '06, the Hawks sent two guys from the offense (Walter Jones and Mack Strong) and two from the defense (Tatupu and Julian Peterson).
This year, Tatupu and Peterson are likely to repeat. Patrick Kerney, who went in '05, his last healthy season, could also make it. And Rocky Bernard, Marcus Trufant and Leroy Hill are each making a strong case for winning their first invitations.
On the offense, you figure Walter Jones is a lock for his eighth Pro Bowl, and Matt Hasselbeck might win a selection, but it's hard to see anyone else getting selected.
The defense will almost assuredly have more Pro Bowl representatives than the offense in 2007.

Dear Mr. Ruskell,
All I want for Christmas is for you to use the Franchise Tag on Trufant this offseason. It's just wrong to let it go to waste. Remember when you had the chance to franchise Steve Hutchinson two years ago but inexplicably didn't and he bolted to Minnesota? Yeah, the O-Line hasn't been the same since.

Really? The Inconvenient Truf? Franchise? Isn't the franchise number for CBs ridiculous?
Before you franchise him, ask yourself, "Do I trust him in 1 on 1 coverage against the best receiver on the other team, every week?"
