This, honest to God, is what I would do if I won the lottery: I would purchase a Portuguese League basketball team and stock it with former Washington Huskies.
I would spend my mornings sipping sangria by the seashore, my afternoons trying to say that ten times fast, and my evenings watching some of our favorite ballers ever.
Until my lucky numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) come up, I'm settling for following those favorite ex-Dawgs as they play elsewhere in the world. Time to check in again with Will Conroy, Jamaal Williams, and Tre Simmons.
Will Conroy (Italy)
Conroy started the year with La Fortezza Bologna, but has since moved to Armani Jeans Milano, which is, yes, owned by Giorgio Armani. This team has a long history--current Suns coach Mike D'Antoni played 13 years there. It nearly went bankrupt, Armani saved it and renamed the team. Conroy's been coming off the bench, in four games with Milano he's averaging under 10 minutes and has scored only 2 points. Here's his player page.
Tre Simmons (Israel):
Simmons plays for Hapoel Holon of the Israeli Premier League. He's averaging 13.9 ppg. Here's his player page.
Earlier this year, a fan threw a firecracker onto the court during a Hapoel Holon game. An alert security guard got it away from the players, but not before it blew off the security guard's fingers. Simmons left Israel for a time but has since returned. He had 25 points in Hapoel Holon's 97-82 win on Sunday.
Jamaal Williams (Argentina):
Williams joined El Nacional of Bahia Blanca midway through the season. They haven't yet discovered what a scoring machine he can be, he's averaging his typically outstanding scoring pace, but is only getting about 16 minutes per game. He's averaging 9.6 ppg. Here's the team stats page.
Here's all the recent ex-Huskies--including the NBA ones--on a map. And here's video of Conroy in a Armani Jeans Milano uniform, dunking in practice.
