Sonics 86, Knicks 85 [NBA.com]: Break up the Sonics! Three wins in a row after they prevail in a brick-fest at Key Arena. Kevin Durant hit a three pointer to win it. Nate Robinson had a tough homecoming, going 0-9 including missing a three at the buzzer that would've won it.
Sonics 12-35, 16.5 GB of 8th playoff spot. Next game Monday vs. Bulls.
Stanford 67, Wazzu 65 (OT) [ESPN]: The Cougs' fate may have been sealed early in the first half, when Aron Baynes stumbled while going after a rebound and fell on Brook Lopez. Baynes got called for a foul, his third. The Cougs desperately needed his height and bulk on the glass--after that, Stanford had 11 offensive boards. The Cougs had a tough shooting game, they were 19 for 55. They missed four free throws in the final minute of regulation, and Taylor Rochestie missed a lay-in at the buzzer in OT.
Wazzu 5-4 in Pac-10, 17-4 overall. Next game Thursday vs. #5 UCLA.
Cal 79, Washington 75 [ESPN]: With Jon Brockman in foul trouble the Dawgs needed a big game from Artem Wallace. Wallace came through with 17 points and 10 boards. The Dawgs played Cal close, and after Overton hit two free throws to tie it, Wallace forced Ryan Anderson to take an off balance shot that badly missed. But Cal got the board, called time out, and did something very smart. They isolated their second-leading scorer, Patrick Christopher, on the opposite side of the floor from Anderson, where Husky true frosh Justin Holiday was on an island. Christopher faked a drive and hit a step back three, and Cal hit their free throws the rest of the way--you could argue this was the difference in the game as Cal was 14 for 16 from the line, Washington 8 for 18.
Washington 3-6 in Pac-10, 12-10 overall. Next game Thursday vs. USC.
Gonzaga 87, Santa Clara 82 [ESPN]: It was, at one point in this game, a physical impossibility for Gonzaga to win. With less than a second left, and Gonzaga down two, the ball was bouncing loose on the Santa Clara end of the court. There was no time for a Gonzaga player to corral it and shoot. But, in the scrum for the ball, Santa Clara's Brody Angley committed the bonehead play of the year, fouling the Zags' Stephen Gray, who hit two free throws to send the game into overtime. The game went 2 OTs, and the Zags pulled it out thanks to 13 OT points from Austin Daye (who, in the last two games has scored 41 points in 40 minutes).
Gonzaga 6-0 in WCC, 17-5 overall. Next game Monday at #20 Saint Mary's.
Oregon 79, Oregon St. 63 [ESPN]: It was a one-point game with less than 9 minutes left, but the Ducks went on a 19-4 run to put it away. Tajuan Porter shot better than 50% for the first time in the the Pac-10 season leading Oregon with 23 points.
Oregon 4-5 in Pac-10, 13-8 overall. Next game Thursday at Stanford.
Oregon St. 0-9 in Pac-10, 6-15 overall. Next game Thursday at Cal.
