#20 St. Mary's 89, Gonzaga 85 (OT) [ESPN]: After the Gaels beat the Zags in OT, their fans didn't storm the court. They did when they beat Gonzaga last year, but not this time. It hadn't been an upset. This is the strongest sign yet that Gonzaga's domination of the West Coast Conference could be over. Both teams played excellent games, but St. Mary's frontcourt was too physical for Gonzaga, especially after the Zags' Abdullahi Kuso fouled out.
Gonzaga 6-1 in WCC, 17-6 overall. RPI: 30. Next game Sat. vs. Pepperdine.
Nuggets 105, Blazers 103 (OT) [NBA.com]: In just six seconds, you saw Jarrett Jack's game encapsulated. With game tied, 21 seconds left, and the Nuggets about to take their last shot, Jack stole the ball from Carmelo Anthony. Then he tried a behind the back dribble to get past Allen Iverson, and turned the ball over. Jack finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists--but 7 turnovers.
Portland 27-20, 1.5 GB of 8th playoff spot. Next game Weds. vs. Bulls.
Bulls 118, Sonics 108 [NBA.com]: Robert Swift returned to the team, scoring 4 points in 6 minutes. But the Sonics got uncharacteristically dominated on the boards, 50-35, as Ben Wallace and Joe Smith each had 10 boards. Smith added 25 points.
Sonics 12-36. Next game Weds. @ Sacramento.
