Never Doubt Coach Romar, Vol. 392

On Friday, I was all set to write a post about how terrible Ryan Appleby has been in road games this year (10-33 going into the Oregon St. game) and how Coach Romar ought to consider benching him when the Dawgs are on the road.

And, once again, like every other time I doubt Romar, I get almost immediate proof of my stupidity--Appleby goes out and sets a school record for threes in a game at Oregon State.

My thinking was that Appleby is such a one-dimensional player, that if he's not going to have that dimension, you may as well not play him. I mean, after all, if Appleby isn't hitting his shots, it's not like he's making it up with defense or rebounding.

Romar's thinking was that Appleby's bound to have a good game on the road sometime--law of averages. And, of course, Appleby did. This is likely why my coaching career stopped at the 6th/7th grade girls level.

As Bob Condotta reports in today's Seattle Times, Appleby's next two three pointers will tie and break the all-time Husky career record.
