Jim Zorn's transformation from floppy-haired scrambler to NFL head coach (!?) is complete. Jim Zorn is the surprise pick as Redskins head coach. Zorn, who's in the Seahawks Ring of Honor, will face his former team in '08, as the Hawks are scheduled to host the Redskins (date TBA).

Jerry Brewer checks out 11-year-old wunderkind Jashaun Agosto of Federal Way, who can run the mile in 4:50 and is ranked the best 11-year-old point guard in the USA. Writes Brewer: "He's a perfectionist at everything. He gets upset if he doesn't make the best grades in school. He never wants to commit a turnover during a game. His shooting drills require him to make 100 shots without ever missing three in a row."

Steve Kelley thinks the Huskies have lost the swagger of the 2003-2005 teams: "The Huskies have lost their personality, and Romar should break out some of the old tapes, show them what Washington basketball looked like when Robinson and Conroy were pressing in the backcourt and Jones was rising for a rebound. He should show them how the game is supposed to look."

Kyle Weaver tells the Times' Bud Withers about Tony Bennett's motivational tactic before the USC game: "Coach came in the locker room, wrote 'Now is the time' on the board and walked out. This might have been one of the first times in a while we got a little riled up."

With the trade for Bedard, plans to put Brandon Morrow in the rotation are on hold. Morrow will start the season in the bullpen, Bill Bavasi tells TNT's Ryan Divish.
