D.J. Hackett Signs With Carolina

D.J. Hackett signed a two-year, $3.5 million deal with Carolina. The fact that the Hawks weren't willing to match such a piddling offer shows that they don't have a ton of confidence in Hackett's ability to stay healthy.

Still, it leaves them with only Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson as receivers who will a) be healthy on week 1 and b) have more than 15 career catches.

Would they go get D-Jack?

Hackett was the Hawks 5th-round pick in the 2004 draft. In three seasons with the team he played 33 games (starting 14), had 105 receptions for 1394 yards, and nine touchdowns.

Here are all his stats.

Sean Locklear, Marcus Tubbs and Craig Terrill remain from the Hawks '04 draft class, which also included Michael Boulware and Niko Koutouvides.

If Hackett stays healthy that's a bargain. Sounded like D-Jack was a little bit upset at the Hawks when he was traded so I doubt that he'd want to come back. I see him landing with one of the Florida teams. If D-Jack is expendable to the Niners maybe former Coug Jason Hill can be had cheaply?
If not for all of Tubbs' injuries that 2004 draft was a pretty good one for the Hawks. If not for all Tubbs' injuries maybe the Hawks have at least one more NFC title the past few years.

The Seahawks seem to like having small, receivers that shy away from contact.

A healthy Hackett is a force.
