How did this day...
Become this day???
Wait, is this Mariners prom?
This was pretty much the M's recipe for winning in 2007. Terrific pitching and clutch hitting. The surprise was that the M's walked seven times. Johjima had two walks in the first game--it took him all of April to get two walks last year.
Wire-to-wire, baby!!!

Wilkerson albeit a lefty at Safeco looked overweight and pretty underwhelming in his first game as a Mariner.
I'm not as worried about pitching as I am that somebody wont pick up the slack for Guillen's absence.
Left field seemed like the exciting place yesterday--those cannons that blasted during pre-game were ridiculously loud, and then they got sleeted on in the middle of the game.
And, technically the M's can't go wire-to-wire, since the A's had a 1-1 record before the M's played a game.
Brad -
Technically the M's can go wire-to-wire since Oakland lost it's first game (down .5-games), thus giving the M's a share of the lead (and now out-right lead) all season.
Statistics fight!
A .500 record (1-1) is better than a .000 record (0-0).
If you were tracking things game-by-game, then yeah, the M's could go wire to wire. (After one game, the Mariners would be up one game on the rest of the division.) Most people use calendars, though. From Wednesday to Sunday, the A's led the division in games won, games lost, at bats, pinch-hitters, WHIP, productive outs, etc. Tied for the lead in triples at zero, though.
