Northwest Sports: In the (Late) Morning

Sheryl Swoopes signs with the Storm. Whoa! Swoopes is a three-time WNBA MVP...the NBA equivalent would be...maybe when Charles Barkley went to the Suns?

Brett Favre retires...so the Seahawks were the last win for the two top QBs in NFL history--Dan Marino in '99, and now Favre.

Happy times for six-time state champion high school coach Steve Gervais, who fulfills a lifelong dream by becoming a college assistant. Willingham, who's son Nathaniel played under Gervais, hires the Skyline coach for his staff.

This West Seattle to State story is pretty nice.

Josh Brown channels Bob Dylan in speaking about his departure, saying: "I'm not a prisoner to the businessman." What he was trying to say, I think, is that it wasn't just about money--the Hawks failed to get a decent long snapper last year, and that drove him away.

Boosters like interim Husky AD Scott Woodward.

Brad Wilkerson says: "I look at Safeco Field and I see a place with huge gaps that are really perfect for me." We heard this from John Olerud and it worked out pretty well...but we also heard it from Jeff Cirillo.

Brandon Newell, who'll be Jake Locker's baseball coach for the Bellingham Bells, evidently doesn't believe in jinxes. "I'm not concerned in the least that [Locker]'ll get injured playing baseball this summer," he tells Jim Moore.

Gonzaga beat Santa Clara, clinching the school's eighth consecutive WCC regular season title.

I've got Seattle Storm fever!

Wait, wait, that's actually the flu. I really should have gotten that flu shot.
