Wrote up my feelings about Monday's Save Our Sonics event for the P-I. I started writing this as text on my phone during the game, since the whole thing was such an odd spectacle. The first couple paragraphs are virtually unchanged.
Showed a draft to a friend of mine, and he emailed back: "When you write it all down, it's so sad." It's true. Thinking about it this morning, it's starting to feel like a relationship that's gone so far downhill--one person (we fans) are trying to convince the NBA to keep loving us, and the other person has moved on.
More evidence of that came today, when Stern and the NBA relocation committee visited Oklahoma for was nothing more than a PR stunt. After getting wined and dined by various Oklahoma dignitaries, Stern announced that the owners were all for the move.
Reader Samuel--not a fan of my P-I piece, and especially this: "I have many gripes with it, but the greatest of them is that you analogized your shooting touch to Petro's. You clearly don't watch many Sonics games, as Petro actually has a beautiful stroke for a big man. One of the few things he does well is stroke the elbow jumper."
I dunno--it's true, I don't watch many Sonics games, but every time I do, I see Petro airball a hook shot, and Monday was no different. Still, maybe I'm wrong...but when I checked the stats today and saw that he's shooting 42% this year...yeah, I think I'm going to stand by that.
Meanwhile, in other lame Northwest basketball news, Brandon Roy could be out for the year with a groin pull.
