Detroit 100, Sonics 97 [ESPN]: The Sonics had a blistering 1st quarter, scoring 41 points. Earl Watson had 12 in the quarter. Then the Pistons went into lockdown, holding the Supes to 13 points in the 2nd quarter. The Sonics were close the whole game, but fell behind and couldn't catch up. Durant had 20 pts. on 7-14 shooting.
Sonics 16-44. Next game tonight @ Milwaukee.
Phoenix 97, Blazers 92 [ESPN]: The Blazers got down 23 to the Suns but clawed back into the game, a nice achievement for a young team facing a veteran one. The Blazers had a chance to tie with seven minutes left--down two, they had three shots in a single possession but couldn't make any of them. The Suns stretched their lead after that, and Portland never again had the ball with a chance to tie.
Blazers 31-30, 7 GB of 8th playoff spot. Next game Friday @ Milwaukee.
Oakland 9, Mariners 6 [ESPN]: Miguel Batista's back stiffened up, but he pitched anyway, telling reporters after the game that there's a difference between pain and soreness. Mike Morse went 2-4 with a homer and his average dropped from .714 to .636. Yung-Chi Chen also homered for the M's. Among the pitchers, knuckleballer R.A. Dickey had an uninspiring outing, allowing two hits, three walks and a run in two innings.
Mariners 3-3 in Cactus League. Today vs. Angels.
