Yesterday's Action

USC 59, ASU 55 [ESPN]: Too bad New York's new governor will have to give up his job as a Pac-10 ref.

UCLA 88, Cal 66 [ESPN]: UCLA has so many quick guards, and they pass so well inside, you will get killed if you try to guard them close. So if they hit their outside shots? You are toast. UCLA did and Cal is NIT-bound.

Wazzu 75, Oregon 70 [ESPN]: Wazzu's tough perimeter defense makes them an impossible matchup for the Ducks, who have no inside game. There was an odd moment in the final minutes--Ernie Kent left the court and went back to the locker room briefly during a timeout. I can only assume it was some sort of digestive issue...not sure I've ever seen that before, though.
Oregon 18-13. Next game next Thursday or Friday in NCAA Tourney. Bracketology has them as a #11-seed.
Wazzu 24-7. Next game tonight vs. Stanford

Stanford 75, Arizona 64 [ESPN]: If you are only going to get 6 offensive rebounds all night, you'd better shoot better than 36%. Arizona didn't and they lost. Stanford had 20 offensive boards, and outrebounded the Wildcats 48-25 overall. Marques Johnson, doing color on FSN, thought the Cats should've run more, and I completely agree. Undersized Arizona got into a halfcourt game with Stanford, and that is a game they cannot win.

Sacramento 96, Blazers 85 [ESPN]: Didn't see this one, but looking at the box score it appears that the Kings decided to let the Blazers' point guards try to beat them. Steve Blake and Jarrett Jack combined to take 17 shots...they hit only 2.
Blazers 34-32, 7.5 GB of 8th playoff spot. Next game Saturday vs. Timberwolves

Mariners 3, San Francisco 3 (10) [ESPN]: Ichiro got his first hit of the spring, Mike Morse got his 16th, 17th, and 18th. Miguel Cairo homered, which he hasn't done in the regular season in more than 500 at bats. Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey pitched two innings, allowing a run on two hits.
M's 7-8 (and 1, I guess). Today vs. Colorado.
