If You Believe The Sun, MLS Seattle Offered Thierry Henry $297K/Week

That's us--Yanks! The Sun, England's most famous tabloid, dropped some column inches on we Seattleites, reporting that MLS Seattle has offered Thierry Henry a rich contract.

Now, there's a slight problem with the report. The Sun says that MLS Seattle wants Henry for next year, but that Henry's team, Barcelona, is planning a "summer clear-out"--presumably, this year.

So, would Henry come play in the USL Sounders for a season? It's hard to imagine one of the best players in the world plying his trade against the Carolina RailHawks and Rochester Raging Rhinos.

Let's step back, shall we, and look at how one English blogger describes The Sun.

The Sun is a fascist, racist, xenophobic British tabloid piece of shit, and they have a bizarre compulsion to sum up entire news stories in strange-sounding headlines, presumably for the pigshit-thick readers who can't handle more than ten words in a row without needing a rest.
Oh my. This may be a little bombastic, but it's certainly about how your average intelligent Briton feels about that publication. Imagine Fox News Channel, but Rush Limbaugh is the anchorperson. That's The Sun.

I mean, nothing would make me happier than seeing Theirry Henry come to Seattle, but you have to consider the source. And this is the source which, in addition to the "Yanks want Henry to rival Becks" headline, ran headlines of "Becks tops porn poll", "Amy and Aisleyne's Sex Games", and "Sausage cancer fear." So.....

I'd love to see Henry in a Seattle uniform too. A shame most Americans might recognize him merely as that guy in the Gillette commercial who's not Tiger Woods or Roger Federer (if they even recognize Federer).

At this point in his career I wouldn't put it past Henry to give the MLS a shot. Right now he's a super-sub bench player, and if Barca's looking to unload him anyway it beats starting for a relegation-level Premier team.

Sun or not, Henry and Seattle MLS are indeed talking with each other.

Notice Seattle's owner / GM Adrian Hanauer's comments in a recent PI story:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/soccer/357491_mls03.html

"Thierry Henry is one of my favorite players of all time. He has spoken in the past about coming to MLS to play soccer," Hanauer said. "I am now in a position with the Seattle franchise to consider such a player. It would be irresponsible of me not to explore and consider a possibility like this."
