If you, like Bill Simmons, have grown weary of the painfully dopey sports movies we've been subjected to recently, relief has arrived from overseas. This trailer for Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait gave me chills.
The movie is as close as you'll get to an athlete during a game. The filmmakers trained 17 synchronized cameras on Zidane for an entire match, capturing every move he made. INTENSE.
The movie plays in Seattle this weekend only at Northwest Film Forum. Friday-Sunday, at 7:15 and 9:15.
Saturday at Sunday at 5pm, Film Forum shows Football As Never Before [youtube], which is essentially the same idea, filmed in 1970 with English legend George Best as the focal point.
These movies aren't available on home video (and they wouldn't be as good, anyway). Northwest Film Forum is on Capitol Hill, on 12th ave between Pike and Pine. Or, I guess, you could go see Leatherheads.
