Here's a guy you can really root against.
Daniel Cabrera is one of the most disappointing pitchers in the bigs. He throws in the upper 90s, but struggles with his control; control of his pitches (he's led the AL in walks each of the past two years), and control of his mind.
Last year he flipped his shit against the Red Sox, balking in a run from third after Coco Crisp reached on a bunt, and then throwing a 98-mph fastball at Dustin Pedroia's head.
After the game, Pedroia was fairly blunt in his assessment: "The guy's an idiot. It kind of freaked me out. I was upset they took him out of the game. He's good to hit. He's 9-15. The guy [stinks]."
Cabrera is a fastball/slider guy. His fastball averages about 95, his slider about 83. He throws nearly 75% fastballs, which is an incredibly high rate...on 2-0, he throws his fastball 97% of the time, which indicates that he doesn't have much confidence that he can get his slider over.
Here are all of Cabrera's career starts against the Mariners. As you'd expect for a pitcher who's weakness is walks, he's done fairly well against the walk-averse M's: 5-1 with a 4.41 ERA.
His last start against Seattle was a loss on August 9th of last year, Cabrera allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings.
Here's Cabrera's career numbers against current Mariners. Ichiro hits him best at .346. Richie Sexson is 0-13 against Cabrera with 5Ks...maybe a day to rest the Mighty One.
