Baltimore 7, Mariners 4 [ESPN]: Two-run homers by Sexson and Beltre, respectively, were all the offense M's got (and Sexson's came with them hopelessly behind). Mike Morse got his first at bat of the season, and ripped an extra base hit, something Brad Wilkerson couldn't do in four starts. Wilkerson has as many caught stealings as hits. Notable that Morse's hit came off a righty--if he keeps swinging a hot bat, he could claim the RF spot for himself. Washburn went five, Cha Baek was disastrous in relief. Oh--Sherrill got the save for Baltimore, of course. In Tacoma, R.A. Dickey threw seven innings and allowed three runs, but lost 5-1.
M's 2-2, 2nd in AL West, .5 GB of LAA. Today vs. Baltimore, 4:05.
Rockets 79, Sonics 66 [ESPN]: The two teams played what was nearly the worst fourth quarter in NBA history--combining for just 22 points (the record is 18). Overall, the Sonics had just 25 2nd half points (the record is 19). After the game, the Sonics were perhaps not in a mood to give their shoes to fans like they were supposed to, and assistant GM Rich Cho had to essentially demand that they do it. Kevin Durant shot 2-17, which is the worst shooting night by a Sonics since at least 1986. Rashard Lewis shot 2-15 in a 2004 game, and Dale Ellis shot 2-16 in a 1989 game, but no Sonic, at least since Basketball Reference has box scores, has had a worse shooting night. The Sonics would have to win their final six games to avoid being the losingest team in franchise history.
Sonics 17-59. Next game Sunday vs. Denver.
Washington 2, Arizona 1 [UW]: Nick Haughian pitched the game of his life, in front of the biggest crowd of the year (at Safeco), against preseason #1 Arizona and their All-American pitcher, Preston Guilmet. It was a complete game (his first), and Haughian fanned 15, exceeding his previous career high by 7. I'll have more about the game on Monday, it was an interesting scene.
Huskies 2-2 in Pac-10, 19-8 overall. Next game today vs. Arizona @ Husky Ballpark.
T-Birds 7, Tri-Cities 1 [Seattle Times]: The 4th-seeded T-Birds obliterated the #1-seed Americans in game 1 of the WHL Western Conference Semifinals. Ian McKensie, playing in his 274th WHL game, got his first hat trick.
Next game tonight @ Tri-Cities.
