Abdul Gaddy Bails on Arizona

Bell Prep's Abdul Gaddy, the #2 point guard in the nation according to Scout.com, has rescinded his commitment to Arizona and now says he and teammate Avery Bradley will attend college together. Gaddy told Scout.com's Dave Telep (subs.): "Basically, everyone says we really play well together,” Gaddy said. “If you’re going to take one us, you have to take both of us. Who plays better than us on the circuit together right now?"

On his decision to ditch Arizona, Gaddy told Rivals.com (subs): "It came down to the fact that I didn't know the new coaching staff. I really grew close to Coach (Kevin) O'Neill, (Josh) Pastner and (Miles) Simon, and they're all gone now."

So Lute Olson's erratic behavior has finally cost him a top recruit.

Washington and Oregon are among the schools who have offered Bradley (himself no slouch as the #9-rated shooting guard in the country) a scholarship, though I imagine this list will grow now that Gaddy comes as a package deal. Other schools who've offered Bradley, according to Rivals, are Arizona, Texas, Memphis, USC, Kansas and Gonzaga.

You can see Gaddy and Bradley together at the Franklin High Summer Slam--I'll have a longer post about this tourney soon, but you should know that Bell Prep plays tonight at 5:50pm vs. Thomas Jefferson at Franklin.

Do the Huskies -- or any of these other schools -- have scholarships available for two players without pulling someone else's scholarship? This seems awful late in the game for two guys to be dictating to coaches what they're going to do.

Call me crazy (which, as a Coug, most people do) but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want this kind of an attitude on my team.

Yeah, they may find that there is no room for both of them at a top program.

But I don't see why, if they are willing to take that risk, there's anything wrong with two guys deciding to go to school together--just like two friends in any other discipline might.

Although I can see how problems could crop up in a team sport like basketball...what if Gaddy starts as a frosh and Bradley doesn't? What if the team's PG goes down and they have to play Bradley at the point. What if one of them isn't working out--if he transfers, will they both leave?

All that said, Mike Conley and Greg Oden did the same thing, and that worked out fairly well.

Washington has at least three scholarships available for the 2009 class. They also have no commitments for the 2009 class.

I was confused -- I thought these were two guys in the 2008 class. My bad. I was thinking if these were two seniors demanding this at this point in the game that smacked a little of entitlement. But if they're juniors, that's cool.

I hear the Cougs have some scholarships available ... :-)

It'd be great to have these two guys on the huskies but I think Isiah Thomas is the main event going forward..How would Romar be able to convince these two talents if Thomas and Venoy are already gonna be running the show. But then again, you never know.
