Former Seahawks DC Tom Catlin died--Mike Sando has a neat piece about him.
The M's managed just a Jeremy Reed homer off of Dustin McGowan (and his terrible facial hair). Silva pitched well, but it was for naught, and John McLaren is back to his typical calm demeanor, telling Geoff Baker: "It's been a tough go for us. We know we need to do a better job [with runners in scoring position]." USS Mariner points out that it's not that the Mariners don't have clutch hitting, it's that they don't have any hitting.
Super-prospect Carlos Triunfel hit his first pro homer--he's had 604 plate appearances. It was a line drive to left field, according to the game story in the Victorville Daily News. Why is a guy such a big prospect if he's only hit one home run? I guess because he's so young? I'm unclear.
Ok, ok, Junior, you got your 24 hours of celebration. Now it's time to start up those trade rumors again.
In an attempt to stop Brandon Morrow's shoulder from continuing to flare up, the M's have asked him to change how he sleeps. Morrow tells Geoff Baker: "I've been sleeping on my back like a pencil. I've been trying to. I like to sleep on my stomach ... it's tough."
In this John Hickey notebook, news that the M's will be wrapping up negotiations for their radio deal for 2009 and beyond this week. Rumors: that the deal will be for much less than the $10 million/year that KOMO pays (thanks, Bavasi) and that KIRO owner Bonneville may use the rights to start a new all-sports station.
It was 105 degrees at gametime for the Sounders' first-round US Open Cup game at Phoenix. Of course, the game went into extra time, then extra-extra time. Seattle's Kenji Treschuk scored a goal in the 118th minute (just two minutes before there would've been penalty kicks) for the game-winner. The Sounders will play Hollywood United, who upset Portland on penalty kicks, in the 2nd round on June 24 at Starfire. Last year, the Sounders made the semis of the US Open Cup.
College football wizard Phil Steele says the Huskies' schedule is the toughest in the nation, writes Don Ruiz of TNT.
One climber is dead and two others are suffering from severe hypothermia after getting caught in a snowstorm on Mt. Rainier.
It's Kevin Hobbs day in the local papers, with both the P-I and Times focusing on the undrafted DB, who's in his second stint with the Hawks.
If you want to go see the Sonics trial, you'll need to win a daily lottery for one of 40 seats.
The Blazers can't help but eye the Seattle market, writes the Columbian's Brian Hendrickson.
Bryce Taylor worked out for the Blazers yesterday, here he is talking about how his experience at Oregon helped him:

The Husky softball coach fired her two assistants, and won't say why. If any program needs transparency, it's Husky softball, which was essentially a pharmaceutical lab in the early 2000s.
The Storm play defending WNBA champs Phoenix tonight. The Mercury have one of the WNBA's best offenses, the Storm one of the best defenses, writes Darren Fessenden. So, as they say, something's gotta give.

regarding the whole komo/mariners radio situation I don't think an all-sports station would be that successful considering 950 kjr.
Portland has two (which is pretty incredible, considering they only have one major sport).
As for the Blazers moving to the Seattle market, I can't help but feel that it's a good thing. A team is made of it's players and supporting a team is feeling as though you know the players and that they're people in your community. The Sonics are definitely not who they used to be; they are a different team.
Portland on the other hand... Portland has Martell Webster whom went to Seattle Prep and signed with Washington, they have Brandon Roy whom I would say would be welcomed even more so than Nate Robinson, because Brandon's a complete team player and family guy. You can't not love Brandon. Then they have Nate McMillan 'Mr. Sonic' whom also just had Jamelle graduate from O'Dea in'07.
On top of all of that, they have expressed interest in Kevin Calabro announcing for the Blazers, saying that he is as good as you can possibly get in terms of NBA play by plays.
I would love to get better Blazers coverage, considering they pretty much already are Seattle's team.
And yes, I realize pure Sonics fans will say that's blasphemy, but... Lenny Wilkins left. It's not the Sonics any more.
Thank you very much for this useful article. I like it.
