Husky Basketball Class of '09 Commit: C.J. Wilcox

Scout.com reports (subs.) that C.J. Wilcox, a 6-4 wing out of Utah (or 6-6, according to Rivals), has committed to the Dawgs.

Wilcox isn't rated by Scout.com or Rivals, but Rivals called him "one of the hottest prep basketball prospects in the West." The SLC Tribune says he's the second-best prospect in Utah.

Wilcox also got offers from Miami, Utah, BYU, Utah State, Iowa State, and UNLV.

So not exactly a premium recruit, but maybe Romar knows something the scouting services don't (I'll bet he does).

Wilcox is from Pleasant Grove, Utah, (motto: Utah's City of Trees) which is a suburb of Provo. It has about 25,000 residents and is 95% white. Wilcox, however, is part of the .29% African-American minority--here's a photo of the Pleasant Grove team, with Wilcox at left, and his brother cousin LeSean above.

According to Scout.com, Wilcox had a 3.9 GPA last year--more importantly, he was all-state and averaged 23.7 ppg. His father, Craig, played hoops at BYU, according to this piece in the Salt Lake Trib's recruiting blog.

My understanding is that with Wilcox in the fold, the Dawgs would have two open scholarships left for the Class of '09...just enough for the Bell Prep duo of Abdul Gaddy and Avery Bradley???

That's C.J.'s cousin LeSean above. Apparently LeSean's football coach has been visited by the UW Football staff. Wouldn't it be nice to get a set of cousins? One for the basketball team and the other for the football team!
