I didn't realize until this morning that, between the Sonics and Blazers, Northwest teams have eleven picks in this draft. That's more than 1/6th of the picks! Should be a fun afternoon.
Here's a chart I made showing what various mock drafters think will happen:
(I guess I was reaching by including Garfield's Marcelus Kemp--he went to some pre-draft workouts, but nobody thinks he's going to get picked. Though I'm sure if he pretended he was French or Congolese, he'd be in the top ten. (This is why you can't make me an NBA GM--I'd pick all Garfield guys and former Huskies...you'd have Anthony Washington as your starting center for sure.))
Looks like Brook Lopez is the consensus pick for the Sonics. As SonicsCentral points out, it's not a sexy pick, but, then again, Lopez' NBA doppelganger is Tim Duncan, so you can see former Spurs dude Sam Presti wanting him in the fold. Also, Lopez is pretty goddamn good, carrying a talentless Stanford team to a 2nd-place finish in the toughest conference maybe ever, and nearly to the Final Four.
The draft begins at 4pm.
