Everything I've read for years is that the M's kowtowed to Griffey on most everything for the better part of a decade, so it wouldn't surprise me at all that he was approached. How it really went down, though, is probably another story.

I love Junior from the depths of my soul just as any M's fan who watched him play *before* 1995 does, but I also know he's among the most paranoid and sensitive athletes that ever walked the face of the earth. He said a lot of things while he was in Seattle that made you raise your eyebrow -- that's just part of the package deal with him.

I'm skeptical it went down the way Griffey said. However ... is it really that much of a stretch to imagine the M's completely botching that thing back then? I mean, is it really that out of the realm of possibility that Griffey's telling the truth? Sadly, we all know the answer.

Yeah, I'm not sure I totally believe him either. For as much as I love him, I feel like he's always been a "throw someone under the bus to make me look good" kind of guy.
