Well, Silva is the T-Bone from Denny’s. The signing’s not bad because of Silva’s ability per se – his presence in the back-end of the rotation will improve the team next year – but bad because of the large opportunity cost involved. Locking up resources in a guy like Silva, who’s not significantly better than Josh Towers or Matt Clement, limits our ability to give money to a true star in the future. Aside from the Yanks, baseball teams succeed by wisely giving money to star players and doing a good job of developing the rest. Giving mediocre players large, long-term contracts is rarely a good idea. It’s simple economics dude. <BR/><BR/>Also, I’m not happy that Wilcox isn’t happy. When the ball’s in his hands, he’s one of the most effective offensive weapons the Sonics have.
